A lot of people in the comics industry consider themselves to be pioneering an artform. Certainly people like Miller, Gaiman and Moore can lay claim to that fact. But this is what comics were made for. Pure enjoyment. The asides and in-jokes only add to it's value and you can keep going back to see the ones you missed.
The literary equivelant of watching Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time. Also the greatest comic since Ultra Magnus squared up to Galvatron in Transformers back in 1987.

Although not as impressive in my opinion as Moore's earlier work (I'm thinking specifically here of Watchmen and V For Vendetta) this is still an incredibly entertaining romp. Like Baz, I loved the literary in-jokes (though I can't claim to have got them all).
Good to see Mina Harker getting a good role at last as well after the plodding work she appeared previously in :-) Roll on volume two!

It's not all that often I reread a comic (and let's be honest, folks, it IS a comic and not a "graphic novel"), but this one is the exception. To comic fans like myself, Alan Moore's name is associated with excellence, and the League certainly delivers. The joy of this piece is that not only is it a magnificent story populated with intriguing, mysterious, duplicitous characters, but it's also a tongue-in-cheek literary companion to the classics. The in-jokes and references come so thick and fast that you miss some the first time around, but pick more up on subsequent readings - simply because Moore encourages you to read (or rediscover) the literature he pilfers from.

Fresh! Explosive! Thrilling! A fab plot for those unfamiliar with the 19th and early 20th Centuary classics, but gives even more value to those who have read them!
