Really enjoyable whilst reading it but ultimately the overall effect somehow seems empty. Well written and intriguing but ultimately I'm not sure what the point was.
I'd certainly consider reading one of the author's other books but would definately think twice about reading another science fiction one

i have to agree with Marc, the main character was voiced very well and felt like you were actually being told a story but having been set in an alternate reality, i feel it required a little more attention to detail to understand the characters motives. i can see the possible social commentary connections you could make to the novel (sweatshops, battery farming, stem cell research...) but if this was the authors intention then i feel it should have been stronger. As a romantic story i feel it was beautifully captured but could have benefited from a simpler setting.

A well written story about a doomed romance. It is set in what feels to me like a totally false setting. The Author postulates a horrific situation but it is never really explored, and I could not empathise with any of the characters, because they were too accepting of their fate - Graham claimed that he felt it made it more horrifying - but to me it just felt false. I'm not really convinced the author was trying to do anything more than tell a story about a doomed romance, as if he was trying to make a social commentary about the situation, I don't think he succeeded.
