One criticism of this book is some of the lazy stereotyping - evil brothel madame is obviously grotesquely overweight. Apart from that, good plotting, and a very interesting setting.

Enjoyable and different but not without it's flaws. Clearly not an author who has much truck with organised religion, here here target is Mormonism and Catholicism, she wears her agenda on her sleeve but this is not too detrimental to the finished product. Not sure I would read more of hers though as it was plodding in parts and perhaps slightly over long.
The early chapters before you have had much explained to you are probably the best, in which she conveys a brilliant sense of menace and horror without the reader really knowing why.
