Lud-in-the-mist (Hope Mirrlees)

I liked this though I found it quite hard to keep my mind from wandering a bit when I was reading it. It had a kinda Tolienesque "wasn't pastoral england of the olden days" feel about it but it was a lot less intrusive and bitter than Tolkien. The story felt a bit cobbled together and it had a sort of detective mystery feel to it without the skill to put it together properly.
